Preparing for Your New Patient Visit

How To Prepare For Your New Patient Visit.

At the IMSMP, our new patient visit / evaluation is divided between two visits. At the ‘assessment visit,’ the physician will obtain your history and perform a neurologic exam. Please allow up to two hours for the appointment. Your doctor may then decide to send you for additional diagnostic tests, if necessary, in order to complete your assessment. Shortly after that initial new patient visit, you will return for the ‘management visit’, in which your doctor will discuss a comprehensive plan for your care. This visit may be up to one and a half hours or until every question you have is answered by your neurologist.

  • Please arrive 25 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete paperwork and have the nursing evaluation.
  • Please bring any relevant medical records including MRI’s (reports as well as CD’s), spinal tap results and blood work.
  • International patients, who are unable or do not wish to communicate in English, should be accompanied by an interpreter.
  • Family members are always welcome to assist in providing additional information at the first visit. For the management visit, however, it is strongly encouraged to bring along a family member.
