This week, April 21st-27th, Dr. Sadiq, Dr. Williams, Dr. Bates and six members of the Tisch MSRCNY will be attending the 70th annual AAN conference in Los Angeles, California. They will be presenting four posters, as well as attending presentations given throughout the week. We are very excited about seeing all the latest updates throughout entire neurology community!

The Lancet recently published an article demonstrating the efficacy of a new MS medication, Siponimod, in secondary progressive MS patients. Siponimod is very similar to a currently available medication, called fingolimod or gilenya, but may have a better safety profile. The results of the study were modest and research on this drug is ongoing.

Our social work department has a new support group that is looking for members! It is for spouses’ or partners’ of our patients. The group meets at the IMSMP on the 2nd Thursday of the month from 6pm-7:30pm. A new report from an annual meeting of hematologists showed positive results for using hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) to treat relapsing-remitting MS. The results reflect what we already know about AHSCT: that it is highly effective in relapsing-remitting MS, but they don’t tell us whether this risky therapy is superior to the highly effective therapies available today.
