The IMSMP Is Now E-Prescribing.

To All IMSMP Patients:

As of March 28th, 2016 New York State has mandated that all prescriptions must be e-prescribed. This is a good change but it will require some changes from both the doctors and patients. The change is a result of the I-STOP (Internet System for Tracking Overprescribing) bill passed in 2012, which is primarily intended to curb prescription drug abuse. However this applies to all prescriptions, whether they are controlled substances or not. A positive outcome is that controlled substance prescriptions are sent and received immediately and not dependent on the mail. There are several important changes you should be aware of: routine refills prescriptions can no longer be ‘called-in’ by an on-call doctor who is paged during non-business hours. Your health will not be compromised. New York State allows exceptions for urgent medical issues such as infections. For routine drugs, please monitor your prescriptions for refills and call to request them during business hours. In addition, please keep the phone number of your preferred pharmacy in your records or phone as the script is sent directly to them. With these steps, we will be able to better serve you and make the transition smoothly.
